Black Park

Adjoining Pinewood Studios, Black Park is beautiful stretch of rolling woodland, with miles of forest tracks, a very nice cafe and a large lake that has lots of wildlife and, on Thursday afternoon and Sunday mornings, added interest supplied by the Model Boat Club (www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk).

But that's only the tip of the iceberg; because it's so close to Pinewood, it's always in use for location filming. Gerry Anderson has filmed there for an astonishing 38 years - so when you're watching re-runs of Captain Scarlett, Thunderbirds, UFO and Space 1999, keep a lookout for familiar landmarks.

And for Casino Royale in 2006, it was made to look like Uganda, with 150 tonnes of red Devon soil and £2,000 worth of Amazonian plants. Then there was Danger Man with Patrick McGoohan, The Saint and the Persuaders (Roger Moore), Doctor Who, Blakes 7, Harry Potter, and so on, and so on.

Could this be a clue as to why nearby Pinewood Studios is so named?

Tomb Raider was filmed there, too

Tomb Raider was filmed there, too - but don't expect to find the temple on the left in Black Park! For a while, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt rented a house in Fulmer, and, if you believe the Press, were regulars at the Black Horse.
